Chet's tip on Tiger Wraps

Postby Terry Busse » Tue Feb 07, 2017 1:35 pm

I read the article that Chet Kiekafer had in the latest Journal about how to determine the looks of a Tiger Wrap before doing all the work. I was in the middle of building a rod at the time and had plans of putting a Tiger on it. I tried Chet's tip about using tape to see what it would turn out like and it truly looks like the finished product. Rather than book tape I used packing tape and I did the experiment on a scrap piece of blank that was about the same diameter. It turned out wonderful and when I did it on the rod I was building it looked the same. Thanks Chet for the tip.

Hi Terry,

Thank for the kind works.

I'm glad you tried my trick about using tape in a tiger wrap for predicting the finished product.

Yes, there are other tapes that will work. I've tried both 3M's book tape and their mailing tape and both worked well. I do think the book tape is a little clearer only because in the tape roll form you could see the core better than you could mailing tape.
